Gentry teachers rewarded for their work to educate students

Gentry Middle School students beat the odds

— Middle School principal Larry Cozens, along with a representative from Walmart, presented teachers at Gentry Middle School with $50 Reward Cards to show appreciation and to thank them for their hard work and commitment to educating the students of today and building the leaders of tomorrow.

The rewards were given because Gentry Middle School once again made the list of Outstanding Educational Performance Awards from the Office of Educational Policy at the University of Arkansas. Gentry Middle School students scored in the top 10, in both Literacy and Math, in the category of “Beating the Odds” - high achieving schools serving low income communities.

Of the 157 middle schools in the state classified as schools serving a high percentage ofpoverty students, Gentry Middle School ranked 10th overall in math, with the eighth grade students being ranked second when compared to eighth grade students from across the state.

In literacy, Gentry Middle School was rankedfourth out of the 157 other middle schools in the state. The seventh grade was ranked fifth and the eighth grade ranked second.

The hard work of students and teachers is showing up in the scores on the Benchmark tests.
