Bulldogs win big!

— The Bulldogs defeated the Hartford Hustlers 57-22 during Friday’s 4-2A conference game.

The win gives the Bulldogs a record of 1-0 in conference play and 1-1 overall.

“I was pretty pleased. It’s been a long time since we won and it was good for morale,” said head coach Shane Holland.

Sophomore Victor Urquidi scored two touchdowns on runs, while sophomore Allan Castaneda had a rushing touchdown and returned an interception 65 yards for another score.

Senior quarterback Evan Owens added a rushing touchdown for Decatur, which jumped out to a 30-0 lead in the first quarter andled 43-0 at half-time.

Overall, the team had five turnovers and 11 quarterback sacks during the game, Holland said.

Senior Samuel Xiong made six rushes for 40 yards during the game. He also made a 60-yard kick-off return and scored a touchdown.

Sophomore Terry Kelly, who doesn’t usually play quarterback, made a 39-yard touchdown during the game. He also had 5 carries for a total of 51 yards.

The defense also played a much better game on Friday, giving up only 24 rushing yards, Holland said.

“Elijah McIver continues to play very well on both sides of the ball, and Avery Clay gets a little better every week,” he said.

The Bulldogs will face theMountainburg Dragons at an away game this Friday.

Junior High

The Junior High Bulldogs also had a good week, winning Thursday's home game against the Hartford Hustlers 35-22.

The win gives the junior high team a record of 1-1.

Ming Vang made three touchdowns for Decatur, including an interception for a touchdown. Kile Shaffer and Kevin Maciel both scored on long runs during the game, Holland said.

The defensive side also played very well Thursday. Troy Flood had an interception and Vang made an interception for a touchdown.

The Junior High Bulldogs will face the Mountainburg Dragons at a home game this Thursday.
