DECA students visit universities

GRAVETTE -- On April 2, Gravette High School students visited Missouri Southern State University in Joplin and Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kan. The purpose of the trip was to attend competitive events and tour different career areas.

Students began the day with competitions at MSSU in areas such as multimedia, marketing case study interviews, business math, business communications, finance and consumer finance. Students also picked up school information packets and toured the campus.

The next stop was the Pittsburg School of Technology. Students toured departments in automotive technology, construction, engineering technology, graphics and imaging technologies and technology/workforce learning. The college offers two and four year certificates and has a 95 to 100 percent placement rate upon completion and graduation. Students also got to attend a construction equipment exposition and demonstration.

The last stop was at Pittsburg State University. Students went through the admissions office and received information packets about the different areas of study offered. They also toured the campus and got to tour the athletic facilities.

The event was sponsored by DECA/VICA. Advisors are Bob Johnson and Thomas Carreira.
