Gravette has tough road

GRAVETTE -- The last several days have been a series of ups and downs for Gravette's baseball team, which played four 4A-1 Conference games during that span. The Lions (11-7, 4-2) came away with a split with wins over Ozark and Berryville and losses to Lincoln and Farmington.

"It was definitely a good test for our team and a good indication of where we stand in the conference," Gravette coach Randall Hunt said. "It was a challenge, and I saw some good things out of it, especially how we were able to bounce back after some losses. Our players didn't dwell on that as they went back to work."

Now that roller coaster takes a turn in a different direction. After seeing so much action in such a short time span, the Lions now go a week without playing again, when they close out conference play Thursday against Prairie Grove.

The game is a critical one for Gravette, which currently sits in fourth place in the 4A-1 standings but could be as high as second with a victory this week.

"Welcome to the 4A-1," Hunt said. "We do such a job of cramming games together, then we have to sit for a week without playing. The time off will be good for those who are banged up to heal and allow some of those who are a little run down to regroup."

"It's going to be a dog fight as we head toward the district tournament to see who will move on to the regionals. If we can come back and get another win, it should set us up very well for postseason play."
