GRAVETTE -- Gravette Public Library's "Fizz Boom Read" summer reading program concluded last Tuesday afternoon with a science fair and ice cream party for all youngsters who had been enrolled.

Six students prepared exhibits for the science fair with interesting themes which included colorful gemstones from Colorado, use of "Post It" notes, speed of melting chocolate in a microwave, oven and grill, relation of a person's height and arm span and answers to the question, "Is a glow stick more colorful in warm water or cold water?"

Library clerk Kayla Lauritzen reported that this year's reading program was the most successful ever. The program began in mid-June and consisted of 10 sessions. A total of 94 youngsters were enrolled this summer, including 18 teenagers.

Participants set goals, and 48 youngsters have completed their goals for number of books read. They have until the opening of school to work on reaching their goals. A total of over 1,800 books were read. The students were divided into three clubs, and the winning club consisted of 19 children who read 985 books and reported a total of 2,020 minutes of reading.
