Decatur chamber gears up for its Christmas festival

DECATUR -- Christmas is a time of sharing, giving and celebrating. For many area civic groups and municipalities it is the time of year for lights, decorated trees, parades and a visit by the jolly old elf himself, Santa Claus.

One organization celebrating the season is the Decatur Chamber of Commerce. The chamber will hold its annual Christmas Festival Friday, Dec. 12, from 4 until 8 p.m. in the cafeteria of Northside Elementary in Decatur.

The Decatur Christmas Festival will feature something for people of all ages, including a visit from the conveyor of Christmas spirit, Santa Claus. Santa will be on hand to greet children and to pose for a picture.

Food for the event will include a chili supper by the Decatur Youth Program, and an egg roll and bake sale to benefit the Decatur School System.

Students at Decatur's Northside Elementary will participate in a gingerbread house contest. Judging for the contest will be done during the festival and the winner announced at the end of the night.

There will be games and Christmas crafts available for kids throughout the event.

The parade begins at 6 p.m. Line up for the parade begins at 5:30 p.m. in the parking lot of Decatur City Hall.

This year's event is sponsored by the Decatur Chamber of Commerce, Gallery Cafe, Handy Mart, Crystal Lake Farms, TNT, City of Decatur, Crystal Lake Estates, Walmart, Westside Eagle Observer and Decatur Medi Clinic.
