GRAVETTE -- Workmen were busy last Thursday removing a few large trees on Fort Smith Street, S.W., in Gravette. The work is being done in preparation for the installation of a new water line in the area.

Corey Reardon, water department manager, explained that the old galvanized line now running down Fort Smith Street is badly in need of repair and it is being replaced by a new 6-inch PVC line. The new line will run down Fort Smith to the corner of Third Avenue, S.W., and then down Third to tie in to an existing line and go on to the water plant. A hydrant will be installed at the corner of Fort Smith and Third Avenue.

The water line upgrade project was partially paid for with a General Improvement Fund grant secured with the help of state legislators. Work has already begun by Seven Valleys Construction Company of Cassville, Mo.

Reardon said work will also begin soon on installation of new sewer lines from the alley north of the End Zone Restaurant south on Arkansas Highway 59 to The Station, then across the highway to the west and down Second Avenue to the car wash.
