Council approves truck, lawnmower purchases Automatic water-rate increase suspended for 2015

HIGHFILL -- The city council approved two purchases and adopted the 2015 budget at its Dec. 9 meeting.

With only three alderman in attendance -- David Williamson, Ryan Evans, and Paula Pautsky -- the council reviewed three bids for a new lawn mower and approved the lowest bid, which was for a Grasshopper mower from Straight's Lawn and Garden at a cost of approximately $12,150.

After reviewing six truck bids for a new maintenance truck, with three different cab styles and two different makes of truck in each style, Mayor Stacy Digby recommended making a decision at the meeting because the discussion on a truck purchase had been brought up at council meetings for three months. Ryan Evans made a motion to buy the 2015 Chevrolet 3/4-ton crew cab truck with the options listed in the bid. All three councilmen voted in favor of the purchase, with the mayor casting the last necessary vote in favor of purchase to allow the motion to pass. Cost to the city was just under $30,000 for the new pickup truck.

The council also adopted a budget for 2015.

An ordinance was passed by the council to suspend the automatic water-rate increase scheduled to take effect in 2015. Water supervisor James Wiand spoke in favor of suspending the increase and said the water commission also agreed that an increase was not needed at this time.

A resolution was passed to reappoint Dwayne Evans to the Planning Commission. A resolution was also passed appointing Cassie Elliot as the city of Highfill's representative to the Northwest Arkansas Regional Planning Commission.
