Gravette Town Hall
The city of Gravette has announced it will hold a town hall meeting at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, June 17, at the Gravette Civic Center. The purpose of the meeting is to get input from the citizens concerning what needs to be done for future growth in the city. Information gathered will be used for future planning of the city.
AG Movie Night
Gravette First Assembly of God Church is planning a movie night on Saturday, June 15. The movie shown will be "October Baby." A snack will be served at 6 p.m. and the movie will begin at 7 p.m. Members of all other churches are invited to attend.
Flag Retirement Ceremony
Gravette American Legion Post 25 will conduct a flag retirement ceremony on the lawn south of the Gravette Civic Center Tuesday afternoon, June 17, starting at 6 p.m. Anyone having a flag to be retired is asked to drop it off at either Arvest Bank or the Bank of Gravett no later than close of business on June 16. These flags will be collected on Tuesday morning, the 17th, and taken to the Civic Center in preparation for the retirement ceremony that afternoon. Any American Flag which is faded, torn or otherwise not suitable for display should be properly retired. Post 25 is happy to receive such flags for proper disposal.
Maysville Day Festival
A Maysville Day Festival is planned for June 21, with lots of fun activities planned, including a parade, 5K run, beauty pageant for 3-10 year old girls, horseshoe pitch, games and prizes for kids. The Maysville Fire Department will also do a car cutting drill. Food and drinks will be furnished by Maysville EH Club, 4-H Club and Maysville Handi Stop. There will be a gospel and country band providing entertainment throughout the day. Entries to the beauty pageant may be made by contacting Gwen Singleton at 479-291-4520. Maysville is the oldest town in Benton County and originated from the fact that John Martin Mays emigrated here in 1831 and the town bears his name. Fire has destroyed the town several times but it is still going.
Northwest Arkansas Camp
A century-old spiritual tradition will continue in the learning center of Gravette Holiness Bible School June 24 through June 29. Evangelist David Spivey will be the speaker. Spivey is the pastor of East Valley Holiness Church of Mesa, Ariz., where he, along with his wife and five children, minister. Veteran song evangelists Larry and LaDonna Thomas will minister in music during the camp. There will be two main services daily, at 10:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. The 10:30 children's services will be held daily under the direction of Carol Avery, beginning June 25. The first main service of the camp will be at 7:30 p.m., June 24. The public is cordially invited to attend these services. For more information, call 787-7312.
Gentry Summer Meals
Gentry School District is again participating in the Seamless Summer program and will provide free breakfasts and lunches to children 18 and under and low-cost meals for adults. The school district will offer the meals at the Gentry Middle School/High School cafeteria this summer. Breakfasts will be served between 7:30 and 9 a.m., lunches from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., on Monday through Friday, through August 1 (except that there will be no meals the week of June 30 to July 4). Adults can eat for $3.10 per meal in June and $3.25 per meal in July.
Decatur Summer Meals
Decatur Public School's Seamless Summer breakfast and lunch program will run through June 27 at Decatur High School cafeteria. The program is free for children 18 and under, adult cost is $3.25. Breakfast is served from 8:30 a.m. until 9 a.m. Lunch runs from 12 to 12:30 p.m. For more information, contact Margo Barnes at 752-3986.
Gentry Summer Reading
The summer reading program at Gentry Public Library begins this week on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 10 to 11 a.m., and will continue through the end of July. For those 6 or under, summer reading sessions will be held on Tuesdays. For those 7 and above, the sessions are on Thursdays. Children and parents are invited to stop by the library and pick up a calendar of events.
Kids in the Woods
A "Kids in the Woods Festival" is being planned at the Flint Creek Nature Area, just off Dawn Hill Road East near Gentry. The free one-day (from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.) nature camp will be held on different dates for children of different age groups -- ages 7-8, July 21; 9-10, July 22; and 11-12, July 23. The camp will emphasize education in natural history and environmental studies. Activities will include bird watching, nature hikes, tree appreciation and identification, bug kickin' (in Flint Creek) and fishing lessons in the new community pond on the property. GED Prep Classes
Free summer GED prep classes and testing will be held at the Gravette Public Library through June 30. Classes are from 4 to 6 p.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at the library, 407 Charlotte St. S.E., in Gravette. Classes are open enrollment. Students may start any time and finish when they are ready. Turn the Page
Turn the Page Book Club will next meet at 5:30 p.m. on July 8 at the Gentry Public Library. The featured book will be "A Land More Kind than Home" by Wiley Cash, a story about a curious boy who witnessed a life-changing event in a town called Marshall in North Carolina. Gentry All School Alumni
The Gentry All School Alumni banquet will be held Aug. 30 in the Gentry Middle/High School cafeteria. The banquet is for anyone who has attended Gentry Schools. Doors open at 6 p.m. and dinner will be served at 7 p.m. Cost per meal is $25. Funds are used to provide scholarships for graduating seniors. Gravette Farmers' Market
The Gravette Farmers' Market is open for its seventh season, just off Arkansas Highway 72, in Old Town Park. It will be open every Saturday from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. until November. The market will feature locally-grown produce, plants, creative and artistic craft items and wholesome baked goods. USDA WIC vouchers, Senior Nutrition Program vouchers, Double-the-Money senior coupons and tokens will be accepted. Gentry Farmers' Market
The 2014 Gentry Farmers' Market will be held at the Main Street Pavilion, 500 East Main Street, with Melissa Graef as the director. Those with produce may set up under the pavilion in the 11 by 14 foot space. The Pavilion, which will provide shelter from the rain and sun, is at the corner of Arkansas Highway 59 and Main Street. Hiwasse Farmers' Market
A farmers' market opened in Hiwasse on the first Saturday in May and will continue to be open there throughout the summer months. The market will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. every Saturday at the vacant lot, near Not Too Shabby, in Hiwasse. Items featured will be local produce and craft items. NWA Riding Club
NWA Riding Club playdays have begun at the Luca Don Equestrian Center, located 4 miles west of Gentry on Arkansas Highway 12. Sign-up time is 5:30 p.m., with activities beginning promptly at 6. Playday rodeo competitions will be held every other Saturday. Events include pole bending, flags, barrels and speed race. Updated information is available at nwaridingclub.org.

Men's Fellowship

Singing Services
Monthly singing services at Falling Springs Church are held at 7 p.m., the first Friday of each month. The church is located northwest of Gentry and west of Decatur on Falling Springs Road.
Decatur VFW Meetings
VFW Post 9834 meets at 7:30 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month. New members and guests are welcome. The facility is three miles east of Decatur on Arkansas Highway 102 and right on Tilly's Hill Road.
