Police arrest suspect in car burglaries

DECATUR -- The Decatur Police Department, with the assistance of Gravette Police, apprehended a male in connection with a series of car break-ins that occurred in Decatur June 6 and 7.

The suspect was identified as Brian Garber of Gravette.

According to Decatur police chief, Terry Luker, Garber was stopped by Gravette Police on an unrelated warrant June 9. When Gravette officers broadcast the suspect's name for warrant checks, Decatur police realized this was the suspect they were looking for and requested he be held for questioning. He was arrested by Decatur police June 9 and charged with eight counts of theft of property. A hearing date has not yet been set.

The break-ins occurred sometime between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. on both days.

An estimated 14 to 16 cars were burglarized on Hill Ave. and Midway St. June 6, and on Crestview and Timberline June 7.

Decatur police suspected Garber only targeted certain vehicles in these areas.

"We believe Garber targeted only unlocked vehicles," Luker stated. "If anyone is missing property, I strongly encourage them to contact our department. We would like to reunite the stolen items with their rightful owners as soon as possible."

Decatur police recovered a large amount of property and believe that Garber may have been involved with other car break-ins in the area.

Those who believe they may be a victim of this crime spree and wish to recover their property can contact the Decatur Police Department, located on the first floor of City Hall.
