Decatur council to hold public meeting

DECATUR-- The Decatur City Council will hold a public meeting at 5:30 p.m. on June 9 in the city council chambers at Decatur City Hall to address two items from the May 12 meeting.

The council is seeking public opinion on a proposal to widen 4th St. from Hill Ave. to Roller Ave. The plan also calls for extending 4th from Hill by the Decatur State Bank sign to Hwy. 59, across from the Simmons truck yard and closing the intersection of Hill and Hwy. 59 to 4th. This change is necessary to help ease traffic congestion on Main Street. A map of the proposed changes is available for public viewing at city hall.

The council is also seeking public opinion on a proposed city ordinance restricting parking on Roller Ave. and Main St. between 12 a.m. and 2 a.m. seven days a week.

"Vehicles may not be parked on Roller Ave, Decatur, Arkansas, between 2nd St. on the west and Day St. on the east, and Main St. between Maple Ave. on the north and Third St. on the south," the proposed ordinance states.

Because of certain factors, including street cleaning and public safety, the council felt it necessary to close this area to public parking during the two hour window in question.

Decatur residents are urged to attend this public meeting. For more information, contact the mayor's office at 752-3912 from 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
