Duarte runs all over Lincoln Wolves n Gravette running back gains 223 yards on 14 carries

LINCOLN -- Lincoln public address announcer Randy Magar had the best description of Cedric Duarte's performance Friday.

"Duarte to the left, Duarte to the right, Duarte up the middle," Magar told the crowd following the third touchdown by the Gravette running back.

Duarte kept running to lead the Lions to a 41-6 victory over Lincoln in a 4A-1 Conference opener at Wolfpack Stadium.

Duarte scored four touchdowns in the first half to give Gravette (3-1, 1-0) a 34-6 lead. He scored on runs of 48, 76, 5 and 37 yards for the Lions, who added another score on a 37-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Bryce Moorman to Brady Rolsman.

The clock began running in the third quarter when Gravette went ahead 41-6 after a 54-yard pass from Moorman to Jackson Soule.

"Cedric had (223) yards on 14 carries and he'll be the first to tell you that had a lot to do with his offensive line," Gravette coach Bill Harrelson said. "He's got over 800 yards in four games and he's done an amazing job. It was another great night for him."

Lincoln (1-3, 0-1) took an early 7-0 lead on a 15-yard run by sophomore quarterback Harrison Swayne. But the Wolves struggled offensively and had no answer for Duarte, who rushed for 230 yards and three touchdowns last week in a 41-7 victory over Jay, Okla.

"He's a special back," Lincoln coach Scott Davenport said. "You give him a crease and he'll make you pay. We gave him an inch and he took a mile."

EXTRA POINTS

• Lincoln is a consolidated school that includes the communities of Summers, Morrow, Cane Hill, Dutch Mills and Evansville. The schools began consolidating in the 1940s.

• Cedric Duarte wasn't perfect Friday night. He missed an extra point that bounced off the crossbar after he scored on a 5-yard run. He was good on his other extra-point attempts.

• Dusty Hudson provided one of the few highlights for the Wolves when he bulled through the line and dropped the Gravette quarterback for an 8-yard loss.

• Duarte had 223 yards of Gravette's 265 yards on the ground in the first half.

Lincoln allowed six consecutive touchdowns after scoring four consecutive touchdowns last week in a 45-22 win at Cedarville.

UP NEXT: Conference plays continue Friday when Lincoln plays at Pea Ridge and Gravette hosts Prairie Grove.
