DECATUR -- Boys and girls of all ages have fallen in love with animals, clowns, calliopes and the high wire. These are iconic symbols of one of the greatest shows on earth, the circus. For Decatur area residents, one of these great shows will be coming to town.

The Culpepper and Merriweather circus will be at Veterans Park in Decatur for two shows Sept. 11: at 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The event is sponsored by the Decatur Chamber of Commerce.

Skeeter the clown from the Culpepper and Merriweather circus was in Decatur to give a pre-show performance to students and Northside Elementary, Decatur Middle School and Decatur Care for Kids Day Care Center.

She thrilled young and old alike as she juggled, danced, performed tunes on a recorder and slide flutes. Skeeter even showed a few students from the elementary and middle school how to balance a peacock feather and juggle.

Advanced tickets are available through these locations: Arvest Bank-Gravette, Bank of Gravett, Handy Mart, T-N-T Express, Decatur State Bank, Carniceria Guanajuato, Decatur City Hall, Smith Drug, Hairbenders, Pioneer Pizza, Tuckers and Gallery Cafe.

Advance tickets are $6 for children ages 2 to 12 -- children under 2 are always free -- and $10 for adults. Show day tickets will be $13 for adults and $7 for children.

For more information or to reserve discount tickets, call 866 BIG TOP 6. Reservations will be available until 4 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday -- even on show day but only at this number.
