GENTRY -- It's homecoming week at Gentry High School and the theme for this year's event is "Give 'em a 'beading.'"

Six senior girls will vie for the title of homecoming queen on Friday night, just before the homecoming game against the Greenland Pirates. This year's queen candidates are Holyn Fredrick, Jessica Hernandez, Nikole Lee, Whitney Scott, Sofiya Stasiv and Mycah Turtle.

Accompanying the queen candidates and their escorts will be junior maids Alexis Hinote-West, Erika Magana, Chelsea Taylor; sophomore maids Rebecca Brown, Sidney Kinser, Yuliana Stasiv; and freshman maids Karadie Ory, Katie Smith and Kaitlyn Williams.

Homecoming festivities, including the crowning of the king and queen, will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Friday in Pioneer Stadium.

Other events on Friday include a pep rally in the stadium (weather permitting) at 10:30 a.m. and a homecoming parade at 1 p.m. Lineup begins at 12:30 p.m. at the high school. The parade will proceed north on Pioneer Lane and Smith Street, past the intermediate school, and then east on Gentry's Main Street.

Today (Wednesday), at 1 p.m. in Pioneer Stadium, the classes will show their spirit in the annual powder puff flag football games, with girls' teams from the freshman, sophomore, junior and senior classes competing for the championship. The unique plays always make the games of interest to football fans.

Dress up days at the high school this week included:

• Music Monday, with students dressing in the different genres of music (seniors, rap; juniors, rock; sophomores, country; freshmen, pop).

• Fat Tuesday, with dress in wild colors and wild hats (but no full- face masks).

• Wednesday -- Powder Puff Spirit Day (seniors, purple; juniors, yellow; sophomores, green; and freshmen, orange).

• Thursday -- Nerd Day.

• Friday -- Pioneer Pride Day.

Game time on Friday at Pioneer Stadium is 7 p.m.
