Boys and Girls Club kicks off 'Guardian Angel Program' campaign

GRAVETTE -- Boys and Girls Club of Western Benton County kicks off its "Guardian Angel Program" or GAP campaign.

This campaign will raise funds to "Fill the GAP" and help the Boys and Girls Club provide technological, educational and physical programs that will, in turn, help children learn to lead healthy and productive lifestyles.

A $300 donation will sponsor a child for one full year and help "Fill the GAP" between a child's annual membership fee and the operational expense of providing services for one child. Scheduled to run through the month of October, the campaign seeks donations, primarily from individuals.

The campaign's goal this year is to raise $20,000 (or 67 Guardian Angels).

"We are happy to announce that our campaign has already raised $4,800 (or 16 Guardian Angels) as a result of our internal campaign which consists of staff and board members. Now all we need is the rest of our community to show its support and help us reach our goal of 67 Guardian Angels," stated Allen Broyles, chief volunteer officer.

"Our clubs are making a difference in the community," said Chris Shimer, chief professional officer. "Last year, our local clubs served 1,200 youth in our facilities, and an additional 1,020 youth through community outreach. But there are still many more children in our community that need the kinds of positive influence and guidance the clubs provide, and we want to reach out to these youth and their families."

Annually, the Boys and Girls Club serves more than 1,200 children who count on the club as a place to get help with homework, make friends, get involved with volunteer clubs and projects, play sports, have fun and just be a kid.

The Boys and Girls Club invites the community to consider donating to the "Guardian Angel Program" to help support the children the club serves and who count on the Boys and Girls Club as a constant in their life.
