Man struck by car at Decatur intersection

n Driver cited for failure to maintain control of vehicle.

DECATUR -- An early morning accident near the Simmons plant in Decatur threatened to send a Centerton man to the hospital.

The accident occurred at 6:30 a.m. Sept. 16 at the intersection of West Roller Avenue and Charley Steet in Decatur.

According to Decatur Police, a 2009 Hyundai Sonata, driven by Amy Cruikshank of Anderson, Mo., was traveling eastbound on Roller Avenue. Cruikshank attempted to make a left turn on to Charley Street when she lost control of her vehicle and struck Juis Hector Rangel-Reyes of Centerton, police said.

Rangel-Reyes was standing on the northeast corner of West Roller and Charley and had just turned to look behind him when he was struck by Cruikshank's vehicle.

According to police, Cruikshank claimed that she saw Rangel-Reyes but, as she turned, her foot slipped off of the brake and her hands slipped off of the steering wheel, causing her to lose control of her vehicle.

Rangel-Reyes rolled off of the hood of Cruikshank's vehicle and hit the pavement, according to police.

Rangel-Reyes was treated at the scene by the Gravette Fire Department but refused transport to the hospital, police said.

Cruikshank was cited for failure to maintain control of her vehicle.
