Springtown to use county inspector

SPRINGTOWN -- The town council, at the regular March meeting, approved drawing up a contract to use the county for its building inspection work rather than hire its own inspector. The action came after a recommendation from the town's inspector and a presentation by the county's inspector, according to unapproved draft minutes of the March 10 meeting.

Mayor Preston Barrett read a letter from the state informing the town of preliminary approval on a street aid request submitted by the town, with more information on the grant expected this summer.

The town received notice that a number of area land owners have filed paper work for voluntary annexation into Springtown, with the council expected to vote on the annexation at its April meeting (Tuesday after press time). Councilwoman Terri Glenn asked that the landowners come to the April meeting and explain their reasons for wanting to be annexed into the town.

Mayor Barrett and his wife, councilwoman Karee Barrett, gave public notice they are not accepting pay for their positions with the town of Springtown.

According to Mayor Barrett, no new information was received on the town's appeal regarding FEMA grant money.

A new filing cabinet was added to the city office to hold non-public records.

The above report is based upon requested unapproved draft minutes of the council meeting which were received by the Eagle Observer on April 10.
