I had a telephone visit with Dorene Wills on Saturday. She is still a patient in the hospital following gall bladder surgery on April 17 and an exploratory surgery since then. She seemed in good spirits. We pray for a speedy recovery.

Skylar Carrier spent some more days in the hospital last week. We pray he will soon be home and feeling much better.

My children fixed me a delicious birthday lunch on Sunday. Those helping me celebrate were Mr. and Mrs. Ward Carrier, Mike and Gabe Carrier, Mr. and Mrs. Brian Carrier, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Brooks, Mr. and Mrs. Lofty Carrier, Jessica, Madison and Serenity.

Joan Lowe is reported not feeling so well after having her treatment this week.

It was good to see Betty Clardy able to be in church Sunday morning.

On Saturday, Mr. and Mrs. Ronnie Bates, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hamilton, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Fletcher and Johnny Fletcher gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Paul Hamilton to help their son Beau celebrate his birthday.

Mary Holloway is home from the hospital and able to get out and about some.

Strong ale and oatcakes with nine knobs, each to be broken off and eaten as an offering, are the traditional fare of May Day Eve. This date is also marked by bonfires and fertility rites.
