Meet the Pioneers

Meet the Pioneers is set for 6 p.m. Friday at the high school. The junior scrimmage is set for Tuesday at 7 p.m., with the varsity scrimmage set for Aug. 28 at 7 p.m.

Gravette Pride Night

Pride Night at Gravette High School is set for 7 p.m. Firday in Lions Stadium.

Gravette Library Gala

The third annual Gravette Library gala will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, at the barn at Big Springs on Beaty Road (look for signs). The event will have a "Hoe Down" theme and feature a catered barbecue meal, country music and cowboy poetry. Both a live auction and a silent auction will offer many quality gift and entertainment items. Outdoor activities will include a dunk tank, shooting gallery and bean bag toss and a photo gallery for souvenir photos. All proceeds benefit the library building fund. Tickets may be purchased for $50 each, or buy six and get one free. Tickets are available at Bank of Gravett, Arvest Bank, city hall and the library.

Genealogical Society

The Northwest Arkansas Genealogical Society will meet at 6 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 24, at the Bentonville Public Library, 405 South Main Street, Bentonville. The program will be presented by Claudia Lasater of Siloam Springs. She has recently published "Out of Harm's Way," a historical novel set during the Civil War in Benton County which tells the story of the Howdeshell family. Mt. Pleasant Youth Night

Youth night will be held at Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church, on Arkansas Highway 72 west of Hiwasse, Saturday evening, Aug. 22. The event will begin with singing at 4 p.m. Jason Cook will present a Biblical science presentation from 5 to 6 p.m. and hot dogs will be served at 6 p.m., followed by homemade ice cream. Charter School Meeting

A public meeting will be held at the Gentry High School auditorium at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 1, to discuss the public school conversion charter application. A question and answer session will follow the presentation. This public meeting is a mandatory application requirement for the state charter process. The school district is applying for a conversion charter school to better prepare students for the workplace upon graduation.

Awana Club

Heritage Baptist Church's Awana Club begins on Wednesday, Sept. 2, at 6:30 p.m., and meets every Wednesday during the school year. A light dinner will be served at 6 p.m. Awana is for boys and girls, ages 3 (must be 3 before Sept. 1) through 6th grade. Awana Club is a children's program that includes Handbook Time that challenges children to memorize Bible verses and activities, and Game Time that develops cooperation, team spirit and positive character qualities. Large Group Time varies from week to week, with songs, missions and Bible lessons and award time for clubbers. Awana is fun and exciting. To register, go to hbcgravette.org or stop by the church. Conservation Meeting

Bowling Leagues Forming

Hillside Lanes in Gentry has fall leagues forming now. There are spots open for teams and individuals. Sunday and Thursday nights are mixed leagues, Monday night is women's league, and Tuesday nights are men's league. Call Hillside Lanes at 479-736-2748 for more information.

Maysville Food Pantry

CARE Satellite Pantry, in partnership with the Maysville Bible Church, is operating a food pantry at the church on the first Saturday of each month. Food is available for those in northwest Arkansas, northeast Oklahoma and southwest Missouri. The next food pantry date will be Saturday, Sept. 5, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. OCH Open House

Ozarks Community Hospital in Gravette will host an open house from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24. Tours will be given of the hospital, including the new, updated radiology equipment, the remodeled therapy department, the intensive outpatient program called "Living Well Holistic Center" and the rest of the hospital grounds. The Dr. Hall Memorial Garden should be completed by that time and lanterns will be lit at the end of the evening honoring those who know someone or have lost someone with Alzheimer's.

Pickin' Time on 59

Pickin' Time on 59 will be held Oct. 8-10. The event will feature yard sales, collectibles and antiques and extend from the airport in Siloam Springs through Gentry, Decatur, Gravette, Sulphur Springs and to the Missouri-Arkansas line. All residents and businesses are encouraged to set up booths, sales, activities and events. Highfill Food Pantry

The Highfill United Methodist food pantry will be open from 6 to 8 p.m. on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month. For more information, call the church at 479-736-1275.

Farmers' Market

The Gravette Farmers' Market is open on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Old Town Park, 110 Park Drive, in Gravette. It features locally-grown produce, flowers, meats and more.

Gentry Farmers' Market

Gentry's farmers' market is held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the Main Street Pavilion located next door to the Chicken Coop flea market, at 500 E. Main Street, Gentry. For more information on the market, call 479-871-1052. Farmers may register for space and sell there on those days without charge.

Lions Club

Gravette Lions Club meets at noon on the first and the third Tuesday of every month at the In-Zone Restaurant on Arkansas Hwy. 59 N. in Gravette. The Gentry Lions Club meets at 6:30 p.m. on the fourth Monday of the month at the McKee Community Room in Gentry Public Library. New members are welcome and invited.

Gravette Kiwanis

The Gravette Kiwanis Club holds breakfast meetings at 7 a.m. each Friday at the cafeteria in Ozarks Community Hospital. Guests are welcome.

Gravette Legion

Gravette American Legion Post 25 meets at 7 p.m. the third Tuesday of the month at the Civic Center. All veterans are encouraged to attend.

Singing Services

Monthly singing services at Mason Valley Baptist Church Activity Center are held at 7 p.m. the second Friday of each month. The church is located on Arkansas Hwy. 12, between Highfill and Vaughn. Everyone is invited.

Monthly singing services at Falling Springs Church are held at 7 p.m., the first Friday of each month. The church is located northwest of Gentry and west of Decatur on Falling Springs Road.

Decatur VFW Meetings

VFW Post 9834 meets at 7:30 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month. New members and guests are welcome. The facility is three miles east of Decatur on Arkansas Highway 102 and right on Tilly's Hill Road.
