Bulldogs loses two to Engineers at Watts, Oklahoma

WATTS, Okla. -- The Decatur senior boys' and girls' basketball teams traveled southwest to Watts, Okla. to take on the Engineers of Watts High School on Dec. 8.

The senior boys took the court for the first game of the evening. It was a slow-paced first quarter. At the 1:17 mark, the game was tied at 6. Two quick points by the Engineers gave them an 8 to 6 lead over the Bulldogs at the end of the quarter. By the end of two, Watts had a commanding lead, 19 to 12.

Decatur took command of the third quarter and chipped away at Watts' lead until, by the end of the quarter, the Bulldogs were on top. But the Engineers came back in the fourth quarter to tie things up at 31 and then take the victory, 43 to 36.

The Lady Bulldogs quickly fell behind the Lady Engineers in the opening quarter. Decatur struggled to get the ball through the hoop. Watts was up, 15 to 4, at the end of the first quarter, 29 to 12 at the half and 49 to 19 by the end of the third. The Lady Bulldogs picked up the pace in the fourth quarter and sank basket after basket to whittle away at their deficit. A late rally by Watts dashed any hope for Decatur. The Lady Engineers defeated the Lady Bulldogs, 53 to 32.
