GRAVETTE -- Valentine's Day is sometimes called a day of hearts and flowers, and there were plenty of both decorating the Billy V. Hall Senior Center Friday night. About 50 people enjoyed the annual February potluck, and there was lots of love to warm the hearts of all despite the chilly night.

Guests brought a variety of tasty dishes to add to the meal. The buffet table was lined with sandwiches and chips, taco salad, spicy meatballs and cocktail sausages, deviled eggs and other treats. Another table was covered with a variety of sweets. A beautiful two-tiered Valentine cake, decorated with red roses and hearts, was surrounded with candies, cookies, puddings, pies and cakes.

The OK Country Band was on hand to provide music for the evening and played a number of classic country songs. A few couples took advantage of the toe-tapping music to swing their partners around the dance floor. Band members included Norma Jean Lucas and Larry Garrett of Siloam Springs, Donley Harrington and Ronnie Smith of Colcord, Okla., and Mike Tye of Kansas. Okla. Several ladies also entertained the crowd with their line dancing, including LaVonda Augustine, Lorene Grim, Lois Phippen, Melissa Steele and Betty Worth from the Center.

Mary Kay Kelly, Center director, announced the Valentine's King and Valentine's Queen when the band took a break. Center patrons voted the last few weeks by casting their ballots for the Valentines of their choice. Each vote was accompanied by a one cent donation, and the contest raised $72.10 for the center's home-delivered meals program.

Jeff Mortenson was chosen Valentine's King when the votes were all tallied. Mary Kay presented him with a certificate and a heart-shaped box of chocolates. Juanita Whiteside was the winner for the Valentine's Queen title and received a certificate and a potted rose-pink tulip.
