GENTRY -- A cooking class led by Chef Janet Covey Novotny drew a large crowd to the fellowship hall at the Gentry United Methodist Church in spite of the cold and icy weather which closed schools and some businesses.

"We counted 75 guests and 13 sous chefs, plus a few volunteers," said Gentry Senior Activity and Wellness Center manager Jackie Bader. "The food was prepared by the 13 sous chefs ranging in age from 8 to 15, and it was delicious," she added.

The event was held to raise funds for the Gentry Senior Center's meals program and was deemed a huge success, according to Bader.

Chef Novotny instructed the junior chefs "and did a wonderful job," Bader said. Novotny also donated all the food, most of the door prizes, and made all the goody bags, Bader added.

"This was an event the community and sous chefs will long remember," Bader said.
