Sulphur fire chief steps down

By Larry Burge John Varner (right), Sulphur Springs’ fire chief, announced he would retire as chief on March 31. He said he had served his community as a firefighter for 16 years and that it was time for the younger generation to take over. Varner also announced his replacement would be Bill Middleton (left). Varner said he would still be part of the team but as a regular firefighter.
