Gentry girls win two, boys beat Gravette

GENTRY -- The Lady Pioneers of Gentry won two games last week, defeating the Lady Lions of Gravette on Tuesday and Lady Blackhawks from Pea Ridge on Friday.

The Gentry girls jumped to an early lead when Pea Ridge visited on Jan. 23, with Rachel Lawrence sinking back-to-back 3-pointers and Haley Borgeteien-James picking up nine points by the first buzzer. The Lady Pioneers built on that lead and held on to it, finishing up by 18 points, 67-49.

Lawrence led Gentry in scoring, with 21 points. Mallory Morris had 19 and Borgeteien-James 15. Lawrence made 7 of 11 3-point attempts. Morris hit three of four from the outside. Morris led in total rebounds with nine. Lauren Little had five.

Against the Lady Lions on Jan. 20, Gentry held Gravette to three points each in the first two quarters and led, 40-6, at the half. The Lady Pioneers held their lead, finishing up, 59-28.

Lawrence led Gentry in scoring with 20. Borgeteien-James was right behind her with 19. Morris had nine points in the game.

Morris led in rebounds with eight. Olivia Weathers had five, and Borgeteien-James had three.

On the Gravette side, Jaye Chalk picked up seven points. Maddie Foster and Sydney Hickes each had five.

On the boys' side, the Pioneers defeated the visiting Gravette Lions, 65-58, in overtime on Jan. 20. Matt Juillerat led Gentry in scoring with 16 points. Brent Barker had 13.

Against Pea Ridge, on Friday, the Pioneers lost a hard-fought battle to the Blackhawks by six. No other stats were available at press time.
