GRAVETTE -- Rachel Jones was awarded a Girl Scout Gold Award on Saturday, June 6, at the Clinton Presidential Library in Little Rock. Her Gold Award project benefited the Gravette wildlife observation trail and the town of Gravette.

She built trail signs, a butterfly garden, owl and bat houses and five bluebird houses. She got the trail certified by the National Wildlife Federation as a Certified Wildlife Habitat. She held an Earth Day program at the trail where trees and flowers were planted and some trail cleanup was done. She also taught two different Girl Scout troops to help them earn Animal Habitat badges.

The Girl Scout Gold Award is the highest award that can be earned in Girl Scouting and was awarded to only five girls in the state of Arkansas this year. Rachel's project required over 100 hours of community service and also earned her a President's Volunteer Service Award. She was given an opportunity to speak about her project at the Clinton Presidential Library.

Rachel will be a senior at Gravette High School this year. She is the daughter of Larry Jones and Dr. Nancy Jones. Her mother was troop leader and advisor for this project.
