Soccer Team Benefits

The Lady Pioneers soccer team will host a car wash and a soccer camp to raise money to help cover the cost of state rings for the Lady Pioneers state championship soccer team. The car wash will be held on July 4, from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the fire station in Gentry. The soccer camp will be held by the Lady Pioneers on Aug. 8 at the Pioneer Athletic Complex.

Bobby Simon Benefit

Transplants come with a huge bill before and especially after the old heart is removed and replaced. Martha Kreder and the ladies of the Sulphur Springs Friendly Neighbors Club are inviting everyone they know to come to the Sulphur Springs old school cafeteria from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Father's Day, June 21, for an Indian taco lunch to help with heart transplant expenses for the family of former Sulphur Springs alderman and mayor, Bobby Simon. Cost is $10 for adults and $6 for children, ages 10 and under. The price includes tacos, drink and dessert. Simon is at Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock awaiting a heart pump and his turn for a new heart. Kreder is asking all to come and eat good food for a great cause and guarantees you will like the food. Yard, Baked Goods Sale

The Sulphur Springs United Methodist Church will hold a yard and baked goods sale, Saturday, June 20, beginning at 8 a.m., on Arkansas Highway 59 beside the post office. The sale will begin at 8 a.m. and continue until items are sold out. Selections will include household items, furniture, ladies' accessories and many other items, plus homemade baked goods. All proceeds will benefit the church building fund.

Dog Coming to Church

On Thursday, June 18, at 6 p.m., Pioneer Church of God (Holiness) will be host to a unique service sharing a deep Biblical message that involves a dog named Baby. That's right, a dog is coming to church, and she will be one of the main presenters. The message, entitled "Too Many Masters," is a living allegory of the consequences of sin and the victory of real salvation. The living allegory sermon is presented by "Baby the Dog" and her master, Rev. Rodney Keister from Mifflinburg, Pa. Baby is a Yo-Chon, which is a Yorkie-Bichon Frise designer mix breed. She has been doing gospel presentations since 2010 and loves to play her part. She has ministered throughout much of the United States. Cemetery Preservation

The next Benton County Cemetery Preservation Group meeting will be at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 20, at the Benton County Historical Society, 306 NW 2nd St., Bentonville. All are welcome!

Father's Day Celebration

The Pioneer Church of God (Holiness) will be holding a service to celebrate the important role of fathers. This special tribute will be held June 21 at 11 a.m. A gift will be given to each father in attendance. The church is located just north of the Gentry police station, at 104 N. Collins. Quilting Class

A class for area quilters and crafters will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, June 20, at the Church of Christ annex, 202 Irving St., S.W., in Gravette. Instruction will be given on a quilt block and a "show and tell" session will be held. Please bring finished projects or works in progress and a snack to share.

Vacation Bible School

First Baptist Church of Highfill is holding vacation Bible school from 6 to 9 p.m. on June 21-25 for children who have completed kindergarten through 11th grades. Children are invited to grab their expedition gear and prepare for "Journey Off the Map!" They are invited to join the VBS team and discover truths about Jesus, the ultimate guide.

Vacation Bible School

Heritage Baptist Church invites children to vacation Bible school from 6 to 8 p.m. July 13 through July 17. This year's theme is: "Hometown Nazareth: Where Jesus was a kid." Children, kindergarten through sixth grade will step back in time at hometown Nazareth, exploring what it was like to live in the town where Jesus grew up. Kids and adults participate in a memorable Bible-times marketplace, sing catchy songs, play games, dig into Bible-times snacks, visit Jesus' mom, Mary, and collect Bible Memory Makers to remind them of God's Word. Each day concludes at Celebration -- a time of upbeat worship that gets everyone involved.

Double-Your-Dollars Tokens

The Gravette Farmers' Market has received a grant to offer the Double-Your-Dollars token program to any senior who is participating in the Senior Nutrition Voucher program. This expanded program, which matches the senior vouchers with tokens, allows using tokens for any food items, not just vegetables, but they must be spent only at the Gravette Farmers' Market. Any senior in the program who hasn't picked up tokens may get them on a Saturday from the market manager.

Wagapalooza in Gentry

On Aug. 8, Tailwaggers will host Wagapalooza in Gentry. The event will include a barbecue cook-off, pie-eating contest, ugliest dog and dog that looks like its owner contest. The event will feature prizes from local nonprofits, clubs and businesses and more, including adoptable dogs and a dog play area. Tailwaggers will be selling armbands for tasting barbecue and for inflatables and other activities. Regional Transit Rides

The city of Gravette has partnered with Ozark Regional Transit for the purpose of an "on demand" service agreement to serve the city's citizens. The fare will be $2.50 per destination and service hours are 6 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Cherokee Language Classes

Free Cherokee language classes will be offered at Talbot Library and Museum, beginning on June 18. Lawrence Panther, Stilwell High School language instructor, will teach the classes, which will meet from 10 a.m. until noon on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Seamless Summer Program

Gravette Public Schools, in cooperation with Sulphur Springs Events Inc., is providing lunch free of charge for any child, 18 or younger, regardless of whether they attend school in the Gravette Public School District. Lunch will be served Monday through Friday and continuing through July 31 at the following locations: from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Gravette Upper Elementary School, 500 8th Ave., S.E., Gravette; and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the old school cafeteria and city hall, 512 S. Black Ave., Sulphur Springs. Students may come to either location during the serving times listed to receive a free meal. Anyone over 18 years of age may purchase a meal for $3.50 on site. Seamless Summer in Gentry

Free breakfast and lunch for kids 18 and under is also available in Gentry during the summer months at the Gentry Intermediate School cafeteria. Breakfast is served from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Lunch is from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Worker Needed at GSAC

The Gentry Senior Activity and Wellness Center is in need of a person, 55 or older, to work 22 hours a week. It consists of light custodial work and pays minimum wage. Contact Jackie at 479-736-0378 for more information.

Decatur Summer Reading

The Iva Jane Peek Public Library in Decatur is conducting a summer reading program this month which is open to children, 5 to 9, and is free. Program dates are June 22-23 from 10 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. The library is located on the corner of North Main Street and Roller Avenue. Gravette Summer Reading

The third event in the Gravette Public Library's summer reading program will be held Thursday, June 18, beginning at 11 a.m. The theme for the five-week program is "Every Hero Has a Story" and this Thursday's session will focus on Heroes of the Past. Sessions on Heroes of Myth and Legend and Heroes of Today will be held June 25 and July 2. The sessions are free and open to all children, ages 4 to 12, in the area. Gentry Summer Reading

Gentry Public Library's 2015 summer reading program, "Every Hero Has A Story," will run through July 30. Children, 6 and under with a current library membership, may begin registration for programs on Tuesdays from 10 to 11 a.m.; and children, 7 and above, may register for programs on Thursdays from 10 to 11 a.m. Participants will receive a logbook to record titles of books read this summer. The library will also be offering a variety of programs each week. A calendar of events is available at the library and children are encouraged to attend as often as possible. The calendar includes community heroes from the Arkansas State Police on the week of June 16 and 18, nature's heroes with Sam Doss on the week of June 23 and 25, Bible heroes on the week of June 30 and July 2, military heroes on the week of July 7 and 9, child heroes on the week of July 14 and 16, comic book heroes on July 21 and 23 and hero dress-up days on July 28 and 30. Everyone who participates in the programs will be invited to a final party at the close of the summer reading program.

Gentry Class of 1970

Gentry Class of 1970 will have a reserved space at the July 4th Freedom Festival. Classmates will begin gathering at 3 p.m. Bring lawn chairs and come and enjoy seeing old friends. All GHS grads are welcome to come and visit.

Freedom Fest Vendors

Vendors who would like to rent booth space at the 102nd Annual Gentry Freedom Fest may now sign up. Applications can be obtained at www.gentry chamber.com or by calling 479-736-2358 to have one sent via USPS mail. Applications are also available at Gentry City Hall and Gentry Chamber of Commerce. Food vendors will be inspected by the Arkansas Department of Health and all vendors will be subject to payment of Arkansas sales tax.

Little Miss and Mister Gentry

Parents of Gentry children ages 3-5 on July 4 are invited to enter them in the 2015 Little Miss and Mister Gentry Pageant to be held on the stage in the Gentry City Park on the afternoon of July 4. Appreciation Picnic

Members of the U. S. Armed Forces -- Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps or Coast Guard -- active duty or reserve, or those with family members serving in any of these branches of the military any place in the world, are invited to attend an appreciation picnic, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 4, at the Bella Vista American Legion, located at U.S. 71 and Kingsland Road in Bella Vista. Those attending are asked to bring a picture of their loved ones in the Armed Forces and share information about them with others. Those currently serving are invited to wear their uniforms. Since it will be Independence Day, patriotic clothing is encouraged. The event will be held rain or shine.

Highfill Food Pantry

Farmers' Market

The Gravette Farmers' Market is open on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Old Town Park, 110 Park Drive, in Gravette. It features locally-grown produce, flowers, meats and more.
