New girls' basketball coach hired in Gentry

— Toby Tevebaugh will be coming back home to coach girls' basketball in Gentry. Tevebaugh, who grew up in the Gentry area was hired to be the head coach of the senior girls' basketball team and assistant coach of the junior team at a special meeting of the school board on Thursday night.

Tevebaugh's Facebook page sums up his feelings following the meeting: "At 5:15 (p.m.), in a special meeting of the Gentry School Board, I was voted in as the new girls' basketball coach at Gentry High School. It would be impossible for me to put in words the emotions that I am feeling. I want to say thanks to all the people who helped make this possible. I hope that I prove to be worthy of all the support. I love Gentry and I am so glad to be home. I usually don't do hash tags but ... ‪#‎bleedmaroon‬."

Tevebaugh was recommended by the screening committee, high school principal Brae Harper and superintendent of schools Randy Barrett. Additional teaching duties at the high school are yet to be determined, according to the agenda item on personnel passed unanimously by the school board at the special meeting.

Tevebaugh comes to Gentry from Paris, Ark., where he also coached girls' basketball. Tevebaugh is married to Brandi and they have four children.

Also hired under the personnel agenda item was Jennifer Ernest, wife of new football coach Paul Ernest, to teach high school business and to be a remediation teacher; Lisa Flanagan as a high school custodian; and Annette Selent as a cook. Janice Folker transferred from the high school distance learning lab aide to high school registrar, Kim Acuff from high school custodian to the distance learning aide position, Shanna Sullins from primary school special education aide to a duty aide at the school, Matt Thompson from maintenance and transportation helper to maintenance supervisor, and Nancy Qualls from cook to cafeteria manager. Eathen Ramsey was assigned duties as head girls' track coach for the senior, junior and seventh-grade teams.
