GRAVETTE -- Students at Glenn Duffy Elementary in Gravette celebrated Read Across America Day March 3. The celebration was originally scheduled for Monday, March 2, the birth date of popular children's author Dr. Seuss (Theodor Seuss Geisel), but school was dismissed Monday due to bad weather.

Gravette High School students came to Glenn Duffy on the morning of March 3 and read to the youngsters. Cupcakes were served after lunch to cap off the morning's activities.

First launched in 1998 by the National Education Association, the annual Read Across America event encourages children to discover the joy of reading. Schools across the country hold activities and celebrations to promote and celebrate literacy. Americans of all ages are urged to pick up a book and read.
