Lady Lions couldn' t quite catch Lady Bulldogs of Fayetteville

GRAVETTE -- Fayetteville's girls jumped ahead early on March 16, scoring three in the second and a fourth in the third inning to edge out the Lady Lions of Gravette in the non-league game at Fayetteville.

The Lady Lions came close to catching up in the fifth when Jaki Chalk singled to right, Emily Miller singled on a fly ball to center and Megan McAfee doubled to left, driving in Miller and Jaye Chalk, who reached on fielder's choice, and advancing Jacklyn Farmer, who had walked, to third and then home. But that was all the Lady Lions could muster and they lost, 4-3.

Gravette had 10 hits to Fayetteville's eight, but the girls couldn't get enough runners across the plate to win.

Megan McAfee had three RBIs on two hits, singling in the fourth and doubling in the fifth.

Hevenly Lunsford and Cortnye Pool teamed up for three hits and three RBIs to boost Fayetteville to a victory.

Lindsee LaBrecque was charged with the loss. She pitched six innings, walked one, struck out two and allowed four runs.

Maggie Mabry earned the win on the mound, allowing three runs in just over five innings. She struck out five, walked one and gave up 10 hits. Pool put away the final five outs to record a save for Fayetteville.
