Springtown council hears reports on local projects

SPRINGTOWN -- The Springtown Town Council is looking into putting up a sign on the Aubrey Long Road Bridge designating it as the "Don Early Memorial Bridge." A previous town council voted to name the bridge after Early and put up a memorial sign, but the sign was never actually created or put up.

The council was informed: that several American flags were hung up along Springtown's Main Street in accordance with the council's recent resolution; that overhanging tree limbs were cleared along Springtown Road; that a Springtown property owner petitioned to close an unused and unnamed alleyway running along some private property and the town park (the city will be holding a public hearing on the matter and the notice is included in this issue); Mayor Preston Barrett has been looking at lights which could be added to the park; the town has received complaints about people speeding down Springtown's Main Street, which runs beside the town park, and the two speed bumps along the road have been ineffective, so the council is considering options and will look at improvements to the speed bump situation in the near future.

The town trash service had been provided by Deffenbaugh, which was bought out by Waste Management. The town's contract expires at the end of the year, so the contract is being reviewed. The council asked about recycling options but it was unknown if they will be available.
