MAYSVILLE -- Eleven members and three guests met at the community building for the September Economic Homemakers Club meeting and noon meal. The meeting was called to order by Orpha Wardlaw. Jane Wilber welcomed everyone. Melinda Crawley led the group in singing "God Bless America," and Dianna Afuvai led the Pledge of Allegiance. Inspiration was given by Melinda, on the Harvest.

Melinda gave the lesson on "Why I Didn't Get a Blue Ribbon at the Fair." There are certain rules and regulations, as an exhibitor, that need to be followed in order to have a pleasant experience and receive the expected reward for a fair entry, she explained. You must live in the county or district you are exhibiting in. Fair books and tabloids are available at your County Extension office. Familiarize yourself with the rules and requirements for the class you plan to enter. Study the score sheets, printed in the catalog, as this will list the criteria for judging. Some fairs use the American system of judging and others use the Danish system. Familiarize yourself with the one that will be used at the fair you are entering.

Eye openers given were: let eggs come to room temperature before whipping for better result. Parchment paper can be used as a pressing sheet when sewing. Deodorant dabbed on a mosquito bite will stop the sting.

Gwen Singleton called the roll and gave the secretary-treasurer report. Katherine Tucker gave a report on the correspondence. Volunteer hours were turned in.

Reports were given on the upcoming craft fair, county fair, use of the building, August outing, and building projects. Plans were finalized for the bean supper. The meeting was adjourned with the benediction.
