SWEPCO alerts area residents to scam

GENTRY -- AEP SWEPCO wants to warn Gentry area residents about recent reports of potential utility fraud. Individuals claiming to be with AEP or SWEPCO contact residents or businesses saying they owe money for SWEPCO bills and that service will be disconnected if not paid immediately. They may suggest purchase of a debit or cash card to pay the bill.

  • SWEPCO does not call customers to threaten disconnection and demand immediate payment.
  • SWEPCO will NOT ask customers to purchase a debit or cash card to pay a bill.
  • SWEPCO uses customer bills to notify customers with delinquent accounts.

Whether a SWEPCO customer or not, please be aware of this attempted utility fraud. If you are a SWEPCO customer and have doubts about with whom you are speaking, hang up and call SWEPCO directly. SWEPCO's Customer Solutions Center is available 24/7 at 1-888-216-3523. For information on bill payment, see www.SWEPCO.com/account/bills.
