Honor flight to soon take to the skies

DECATUR -- The Northwest Arkansas Honor flight will soon take to the sky en route to Washington, D.C. On board April 20 will be 14 northwest Arkansas area veterans, joined by others from Arkansas and Oklahoma.

The flight will depart Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport at 7 a.m., full of veterans of World War II, Korea and Vietnam. Together with their guardians, the veterans will tour the many war memorials that have been erected to honor both the living and fallen service men and women for their service in defense of freedom.

Seventy-four veterans from Arkansas and Oklahoma will be on this all-day trip, including five from Springdale, three from Decatur, and one each from Gentry, Siloam Springs, Bella Vista, Rogers, Fayetteville and Colcord, Okla.

Cherokee Casino, one of the event sponsors, will host a gathering on April 19 at the Casino in West Siloam Springs, Okla., of the honor-flight participates and the many volunteers who helped to put the event together.
