Lions play ball, bring home one win

GRAVETTE -- The Lions played a lot of baseball last week, with games on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and two on Saturday, but the final results were a bit tough to swallow.

Gravette 9

Stilwell 6

The bright spot in the week for the Gravette Lions was on April 12 when they traveled to Stilwell and rallied in the final innings to bring home a 9-6 win.

Gravette was up, 4-0, after 2 1/2 innings, but Stilwell tied things up with four runs in the bottom of the third. Stilwell then broke the tie and took the lead in the bottom of the fifth when another runner crossed the plate, but Gravette took back the lead with three in the top of the sixth and added another two in their last at bat for the win.

Kilby Roberts drove in Jackson Soule' and Dylan Gruver in the sixth to take back the lead. Roberts had three hits in four at bats for the Lions.

Hunter Cole pitched for the Lions and allowed nine hits and five earned runs.

Huntsville 6

Gravette 3

When the Eagles came to town on April 11, they soared out of reach of the Lions following a four-run opening at bat. The Lions picked up a run in the bottom of the first and another two in the fourth, but that wasn't enough to catch up and the Eagles added another run each in the fourth and the sixth to win the game, 6-3.

Gravette's two runs in the bottom of the fourth came on an RBI double by Jace Russ and an RBI single by Dalton Cook.

Kilby Roberts took the loss for Gravette. He allowed five runs in 4 2/3 innings. Trey Nunnally shut down Huntsville and allowed only one hit during his 2 1/3 innings on the mound.

Shiloh 6

Gravette 1

The Lions scored only one run in the top of the sixth when they traveled to Springdale to play the Saints from Shiloh Christian, and Shiloh had the game sewn up with three runs each in the first and second innings. Jace Russ drove in Brady Rolsma with a single for Gravette's only score in the game.

Trey Nunnally was charged with the loss for Gravette.

Sequoyah 10

Gravette 2

On Saturday, the Lions lost a non-conference game to Sequoyah, 10-2. Gravette scored a run each in the first and the third, but Sequoyah grabbed the lead with seven runs in the second inning.

Jackson Soule' was two for three with his bat and scored Gravette's two runs, but that wasn't enough for the Lions.

Jay 5

Gravette 1

Against Jay, the Lions were able to score only one run on five hits. Jay grabbed the lead in the bottom of the fourth when four runners made it home. Deaton Hunter scored for Gravette on a Luke Summerford sacrifice.
