Purple Heart recipients to be honored

New signs to be posted in Decatur

DECATUR -- The Decatur Veterans Committee continues its work of recognizing the city's many military veterans, past and present.

The committee, under the leadership of Rob Hopkins, along with the city of Decatur is putting together a celebration commemorating the recipients of the Military Order of the Purple Heart April 23 at 10 a.m. near the Howard-Parrish Memorial at Veterans Park in Decatur.

The city has six "Purple Heart City" road signs that will go up prior to the ceremony on Saturday. Four of the signs will be placed at the four main entrances to the city, two on Arkansas Highway 102, two on Arkansas Highway 59. Another will be placed on Falling Springs Road, and another will hang at the Arkansas Highway 102 and Pat Drive entrance to Veterans Park.

"We are looking for any Purple Heart recipients from the Decatur area that would like to participate in this ceremony," Hopkins said. "We have located six at present and would appreciate any help in locating others."
