— The cheerleaders at Gentry High School participated in a number of cheer competitions across the region, including at the state level on Dec. 17. Following are some of those results.

Gentry placed third at Russellville on Nov. 26. At the Ozark Competition on Dec. 3, Gentry placed first, along with Lauren Fowler's stunt group placing first. At Bentonville on Dec. 10, the Gentry cheerleaders placed second.

Gentry hosted a cheering competition on Dec. 12 and placed first in the event and also won the overall high point in the all-girls' division 1A through 7A. Sidney Kinser's stunt group placed first, Lauren Fowler's stunt group placed second, Ashlyn Riggs placed second in jumps and Falyn Cordeiro placed second in tumbling.

At state competition in Hot Springs on Dec. 17, the Gentry all-girls' squad placed fourth.

"We were in second place but got knocked down to fourth due to two stunt falls and their deductions," said Joni Wilson, Gentry's cheer coach. "Nashville won first, Pottsville was second and West Side was third," she added.

"It was an extremely tight competition," Wilson said. "Only five points separated first through fourth place. We got two deductions for falls which kept us from being in the top two. Other than that, I thought the girls had an outstanding performance and represented Gentry well."
