Coffee with the Congressman

U.S. Congressman Steve Womack, Third District, will be in Decatur for a "Coffee with the Congressman" event Jan. 21 from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. in the community room at Decatur City Hall on 310 Maple Ave. The event is sponsored by the city of Decatur. Womack will conduct an informal face-to-face discussion on such topics as the national debt, Social Security and health care. 'Love Languages' coming to TLCC

John and Joyce Marter will be bringing Gary Chapman's popular program from his best selling book, "The 5 Love Languages," to the Total Life Community Center on Arkansas Highway 59 south of Gentry. Chapman's book has been on the best-seller list for a number of years and continues to be today. Scheduled presentations will be Friday, Jan. 29, from 7 to 8:30 p.m., and Saturday, Jan. 30, from 3 to 6 p.m. Attendance is free but, due to limited space, please call 479-233-0302 to register. The Marters are experienced teachers of the love languages and have held seminars in various places. John, from South Africa, served as director of the Dogwood Literacy Council in Siloam Springs for more than six years before retiring. Joyce is from Washington, D.C., and teaches English as a second language at Northwest Technical Institute in Springdale. They served 13 years as missionaries in Zambia and Zimbabwe, and seven years in the Philippines before coming to the Gentry and Siloam Springs area. The Total Life Community Center is located just south of Gentry at 13710 Highway 59.

Maysville Cemetery

The Maysville Cemetery Association will meet at 6 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 1, at the Maysville Community Building. Interested persons are encouraged to attend.

Gentry Quilt Show

The Gentry Chamber of Commerce quilt show will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Jan. 22-29 in the McKee Community Room at the Gentry Public Library. McKee Foods is again sponsoring the annual show. For more information, call Parks at 479-936-1498 or 479-736-2358.

Quilt Show Outing

The PieceMakers Quilt Club is planning an outing for Friday, Jan. 22, to attend the Gentry quilt show. Anyone interested is invited to meet at 1 p.m. at the Church of Christ annex, 202 Irving Street, S.W., in Gravette, to car pool to Gentry or meet the group at 1:30 p.m. at La Heurta Mexican restaurant on Highway 59 in Gentry. The regular quilt class will not be held this month.

Gentry Story Time

Gentry Public Library holds Story Time with Grandma Betty each Friday. Grandma Betty will read aloud children's favorite books from 2 to 3 p.m. in the children's area of the library. Parents are encouraged to read to their children from an early age to help them learn new words and what those words mean and to improve listening skills as children prepare for entry into school. Baseball-Softball Signup

Gravette Summer Baseball and Softball League registration is underway and players may be registered online and fees paid with a credit or debit card at www.leaguelineup.com/gravette. A $3 fee will be added to cover the fee charged for processing. Registration and payment may also be completed in person at Gravette Middle School (in the old gym) on Saturday, Jan. 30, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Boys must be ages 4-16 as of May 1, 2016, and Girls ages 4-16 as of Jan. 1, 2016. Registration fee for all ages is $35. Maximum family fee is $100. After Jan. 31 there will be a $10 late charge per player. Signups are needed by Jan. 31 to guarantee a spot on a team. Tryouts will be held in February. Umpires and volunteer coaches may sign up online at http://www.leaguelineup.com.

Travel Team Signup

GED Classes

Free GED classes will be held at the Gravette Public Library from 4 to 6 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays beginning Wednesday, Jan. 20, and continuing through May 13. Classes are open enrollment, so students may enroll anytime and finish when they are ready. Come by the library, 407 Charlotte Street, S.E., to enroll or call 479-986-6911.

Highfill Food Pantry

The Highfill United Methodist food pantry is open from 6 to 8 p.m. on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month. For more information, call the church at 479-736-1275.

Maysville Food Pantry

Maysville Bible Church is sponsoring a monthly food giveaway which is held the first Saturday of each month. The next giveaway will be from 9 a.m. until 12 noon on Saturday, Feb. 6, at the church. The only qualification to receive food is to answer the question, "Do you need food?" No proof of income is needed.

Decatur Food Pantry

Decatur United Methodist Church has a community food pantry open the first and third Thursday of each month. The only requirement for the pantry is that one live in the 72722 zip code area. An identification and a piece of mail showing one's residence in the Decatur area is required. There is also a USDA commodity program available which is income-based. Those wishing to do so can fill out an application to see if they qualify.

Tired Iron Meetings

Tired Iron of the Ozarks meets at 7 p.m. on the third Tuesdays of the month at the club's showgrounds, 13344 Taylor Orchard Road, Gentry.

Lions Club

Gravette Lions Club meets at noon on the first Tuesday of every month at the In-Zone Restaurant on Arkansas Hwy. 59 N. in Gravette and at 7 p.m. on the third Tuesday of every month at Imagine Before and After School Care, 206 Birmingham St., S.E., The Gentry Lions Club meets at 6:30 p.m. on the fourth Monday of the month at the McKee Community Room in Gentry Public Library. New members are welcome and invited.

Gravette Kiwanis

The Gravette Kiwanis Club holds breakfast meetings at 7 a.m. each Friday at the cafeteria in Ozarks Community Hospital. Guests are welcome.

Gravette Legion

Gravette American Legion Post 25 meets at 7 p.m. the third Tuesday of the month at the Civic Center. All veterans are encouraged to attend.

Singing Services

Monthly singing services at Mason Valley Baptist Church Activity Center are held at 7 p.m. the second Friday of each month. The church is located on Arkansas Hwy. 12, between Highfill and Vaughn. Everyone is invited.
