Council members receive updates, set hearing date

SPRINGTOWN -- Town council members heard reports and information on a variety of issues at Springtown's council meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 12.

Storm sirens failed to go off when activated during storms in late December. Since a recent siren test revealed the sirens to be in working condition, the matter was referred to Benton County Emergency Management to see what the issue was.

With Springtown switching trash services to Republic Services on Jan. 1, some residents reported not yet receiving service. They were asked to contact Republic Services at 1-800-627-1717 to set up an account in order to begin receiving service (the service does not change over automatically). A rolling waste bin will also be provided once an account is set up.

Some residents were also automatically charged for trash service by Waste Management, the previous provider, for the spring quarter. According to information provided at the meeting, Waste Management is working to refund the charges.

The town is still waiting for the electrician to install timers on lights in the town park.

Statements of financial interest were handed out to town officials.

A petition for an alley closure was received by the town. The hearing on the petition will be at 6 p.m. on Feb 9, immediately before the next regularly scheduled town meeting. A notice of the public hearing has been submitted to the Eagle Observer for publication.
