Pool set for grand opening June 13

— After two months of restoration work, the Decatur City Pool will be open to the public June 13 for its grand reopening.

The Decatur City Council approved funding for the project during its March 14 meeting at city hall. City workers began the six-week project March 17 with the demolition of the old life guard shack, rest rooms and change rooms.

The current pool was completed in late 1975. Over the years, exposure to the elements has deteriorated the pool and the surrounding structures.

Shortly after the end of the summer season last year, a crack was discovered in the pool wall. City workers repaired the cracks and gave the pool and surrounding pool deck a fresh coat of paint. A Bulldog adorns the center of the pool.

Work was completed May 27 and cleared for operation by state inspectors June 1.

The grand opening for City Pool is scheduled for June 13 at 12 p.m.

The Decatur City Pool, located at City Park on Pool Street, will be open Monday through Saturday from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. through the summer.
