Gentry Night July 13

at Arvest Ball Park

A Gentry Community Night has been set for July 13 at Arvest Ballpark. The Northwest Arkansas Naturals will play the Springfield Cardinals, with game time set at 7:05 p.m. A pregame ceremony will honor Gentry officials, volunteers, community members and the Gentry Pride 11U softball team. A community member will throw out the first pitch. Tickets purchased in advance of the game are $8, with half of the proceeds going to the Gentry Pride 11U softball team to help the team with expenses of going to the Softball World Series. Tickets purchased at the ball park will be full price and will not benefit the Gentry team. Advance tickets for individuals or groups are available from the Gentry Chamber of Commerce, 212 East Main Street, or by calling the Chamber at 479-736-2358 or 479-936-1498. Tickets are also available from Clay Stewart at 479-233-2233, or any Gentry Pride player or parent.

Quilting class scheduled

A class for area quilters and crafters will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, June 18, at the Church of Christ annex, 202 Irving St., S.W., in Gravette. Instruction will be given on a quilt block and a "show and tell" session will be held. Please bring finished projects or works in progress and a snack to share.

Open House at PD

An open house at the new Gentry Police Station, on East Third Street, is set from 2-5 p.m. on Thursday, June 23. A forum for Gentry businesses is set from 5:30 to 6 p.m.

NAGS to meet June 27

The Northwest Arkansas Genealogical Society will meet at 6 p.m. Monday, June 27, at the Bentonville Public Library, 405 South Main. Marcia Connors, a professional genealogist for more than 10 years, will present a program covering sayings such as "Once in a Blue Moon" and legal terminology like "relict." Vacation Bible School begins June 26

Vacation Bible school will be held at Mason Valley Baptist Church, halfway between Highfill and Vaughn on Arkansas 12, June 26, through July 1, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. The VBS will be for children, ages 4 and older. Pageant entries sought

Pageant entries are being sought for Maysville Day on June 18. Forms are posted online at Maysville Days Facebook page or pick one up at the Maysville HandiStop.

Men's breakfast slated

First Baptist Church of Highfill will hold a men's fellowship breakfast on the first Saturday of each quarter at 8 a.m. All adult and youth men are welcome. For information, call 479-233-0242.

Summer Reading

underway in Gentry

Gentry Public Library is holding its summer reading program, "On Your Mark, Get Set, Read!" from 1 to 3 p.m. each Wednesday through July 27. The program includes themed guests, games and activities, and a story time followed by a movie and popcorn. The June 15 and June 22 theme is "Animals from Around the World." Participants will receive a time sheet to record their time spent reading, and every child completing the time sheet will be invited to a special party with awards and certificates at the conclusion of the summer program. The Gravette Public Library at 119 Main St., S.E., is holding its summer reading program, "On Your Mark, Get Set, Read!" each week. Sessions focus on a different sport or athletic activity and all sessions are not on the same day of the week. Next week's session, on frisbee golf, will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Monday, June 20, with Garry Long as leader.

The Iva Jane Peek Public Library in Decatur is holding its summer reading program, "On Your Mark, Get Set, Read!" from 10 to 11:30 a.m. every Tuesday in June. The program is open to children, ages 5-9. The Iva Jane Peek Public Library is located at 121 N. Main St., at the four-way stop sign in Decatur. Sulphur Springs Library announces summer hours

New summer hours at the Sulphur Springs Public Library are 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. These hours are in coordination with the "Seamless Summer" lunch program held in the same building complex.

Gravette Farmers' Market open on Saturdays

Gravette farmers' market is open on Saturdays from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. in Old Town Park. Offerings include locally grown fruits and vegetables, beef and pork, eggs, a variety of plants, baked goods, jams and jellies. Local crafts are also featured. Market vendors set up booths in the covered pavilion at the park. The market accepts WIC vouchers and senior market produce coupons issued by the Area Agency on Aging. Persons participating in the SNAP and senior farmers' market produce coupon programs can pick up their Double Your Dollars coupons now with their EBT card and/or Sr-FMNP vouchers.

Gentry Farmers' Market open three days a week

The farmers' market in Gentry will be open on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at the south side (along Arkansas 12) parking area of Gentry City Park. Farmers may set up between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Tuesdays, 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Thursdays, and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays.

Free breakfast, lunch slated for children

Free breakfast and lunch for children 18 and under is being served Monday through Friday at the Gentry Intermediate School through July 29 (except for June 29). Meals are free to children regardless of age, color, sex, race, nationality or disability. Adults may participate for $2 per breakfast and $3.25 per lunch. Breakfast will be served from 8 to 9 a.m. each day. Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. For information, call 479-736-2253 or visit the school website.

Gravette serving free meals to 18-and-under

Gravette Public Schools, in cooperation with Sulphur Springs Event, Inc., is providing meals free of charge to children, 18 or under, regardless of whether they attend school in the Gravette Public School District. Meals are served Monday through Friday, through July 29, at the following locations and times: breakfast at Gravette Upper Elementary from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m.; lunch at Gravette Upper Elementary from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; lunch at Sulphur Springs City Hall (the old school cafeteria) from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Seamless Summer

continues in Decatur

Decatur Public School is offering the Seamless Summer meal program this year through June 30 and July 11-29. Breakfast begins at 8 a.m. and lunch is from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. All children 18 and under may eat free. Adult prices are $2.50 for breakfast and $3.50 for lunch.

NWA Riding Club holds

bi-weekly play days

NWA Riding Club will be holding bi-weekly play days at a new arena located at 16949 Highway 102 West in Decatur. Play days will begin with exhibition rides at 4:30 p.m., followed by regular events at 5 p.m. Events will include pole bending, keyhole, barrel racing, goat tying (tentative) and flag racing (tentative). The deadline to sign up for events is 4:30 p.m. Upcoming dates include July 16. Regular play-day events are $5 each and exhibition rides are $4. Family memberships are $25 per year. NWA Riding Club is a family-oriented, non-profit organization that offers trail rides, fun events and camp outs throughout the year in addition to play days. Free Shoe Distribution

Samaritan's Feet, in cooperation with local United Methodist Churches from Gravette, Sulphur Springs and Bella Vista, will host a shoe distribution event from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, July 30, at the Gravette United Methodist Church located on the corner of 2nd Street and Akron. Samaritan's Feet is a nonprofit organization that shares a message of hope and love through washing the feet of children locally and around the world with a gift of free new socks and shoes for back to school. All school-age children in the Gravette School District are invited to sign up and attend this event. They may stop by the Gravette Public Library, 119 Main Street, S.E., to get their registration form (child's shoe size must be provided). Forms should be returned to the library by June 15. Those in the Sulphur Springs community who would like their children to take part, or know of a family that would benefit from this, please see SSUMC members at Sulphur Days on June 25 at the City Park to register the children.

Highfill Food Pantry

The Highfill United Methodist food pantry is open from 6 to 8 p.m. on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month. For more information, call the church at 479-736-1275.

Maysville Food Giveaway

A free food distribution is held the first Saturday of each month at the Maysville Bible Church, Arkansas Hwy. 72 and Cunningham, in Maysville. Anyone who is in need of food is welcome to attend.

Decatur Food Pantry

Decatur United Methodist Church has a community food pantry open the first and third Thursday of each month. The only requirement for the pantry is that one live in the 72722 zip code area. An identification and a piece of mail showing one's residence in the Decatur area are required. There is also a USDA commodity program available which is income-based. Those wishing to do so can fill out an application to see if they qualify.

Lions Club

Gravette Lions Club meets at noon on the first Tuesday of every month at the In-Zone Restaurant on Arkansas Hwy. 59 N. in Gravette and at 7 p.m. on the third Tuesday of every month at Imagine Before and After School Care, 206 Birmingham St., S.E. The Gentry Lions Club meets at 6:30 p.m. on the fourth Monday of the month at the McKee Community Room in Gentry Public Library. New members are welcome and invited.

Gravette Kiwanis

The Gravette Kiwanis Club holds breakfast meetings at 7 a.m. each Friday at the cafeteria in Ozarks Community Hospital. Guests are welcome.

Gravette Legion

Gravette American Legion Post 25 meets at 7 p.m. the third Tuesday of the month at the Civic Center. All veterans are encouraged to attend.

Singing Services

Monthly singing services at Mason Valley Baptist Church Activity Center are held at 7 p.m. the second Friday of each month. The church is located on Arkansas Hwy. 12, between Highfill and Vaughn. Everyone is invited.
