GENTRY -- Police are investigating a commercial burglary and theft from the car wash located at 1182 S. Gentry Blvd. According to reports, approximately $1,500 in quarters were stolen between 3 p.m. on Feb. 27 and 10 a.m. on Feb. 29.

Reports state that the coin box was cut out of the wall from inside the service room at the car wash and emptied. The roof was also raised, indicating that whoever is responsible for the theft appears to have entered through the roof and come down through the attic to steal the coins.

Another commercial burglary, allegedly occurring between 4:30 p.m. on March 4 and 6:30 a.m. on March 7 at the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Dept., located at 601 N. Gentry Blvd., is also being investigated by Gentry police.

According to police reports, someone allegedly broke into the building through a window, stole a number of chain saws, pole saws, a weed cutter, two-way radios and tools owned by department personnel. A soda machine at the facility was also broken into with an undetermined amount of money stolen.

Anyone with information on these burglaries and thefts is asked to call the Gentry Police Dept. at 479-736-8400.

Police cited Dawn Brooks, 33, of Decatur, on Feb. 26 for allegedly taking a small bottle of makeup from the Dollar General Store on Gentry Blvd. According to police reports, when Brooks was confronted about taking the makeup by a store employee, the bottle fell out of Brooks' pant leg and onto the floor.

Following a Feb. 24 incident in which Mackenley Thompson, 18, of Gentry, was arrested in connection with third-degree assault on a family member and first-degree criminal mischief, Thompson was also arrested on a warrant in connection with a March 1 incident violating a no-contact order, residential burglary, theft, aggravated assault on a family member and criminal mischief.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, Thompson is alleged to have returned to the residence of his girlfriend on March 1, grabbed her wallet from her hands, ran out the door and, while attempting to leave in his vehicle, rolled up the car window on the arm of his girlfriend's sister and drug her with the car when she was attempting to retrieve the stolen wallet and a cell phone Thompson allegedly grabbed from her at the car when she threatened to call police. Thompson is also alleged to have returned and destroyed property inside the residence on the previous night.

According to jail logs, Thompson was arrested by the Siloam Springs Police Department on March 9 and was, on Monday, being held in the Benton County Jail on a $50,000 surety bond in connection with aggravated assault on a family member (felony), two counts of residential burglary (felony); two counts of theft; one count of criminal mischief; violation of a no-contact order; one count of possession of a controlled substance; and three counts of possession of drug paraphernalia. The drug charges were Siloam Springs charges in connection with Thompson's arrest.

Gentry police were seeking a warrant for Israel Infante-Tapia, 26, of Gentry, in connection with a March 6 incident in which he is alleged to have pulled the hair of, and struck on the face, a former girlfriend. The warrant was for misdemeanor assault on a family member in the third degree.
