Local art show starts today at Gentry Public Library

A number of local artists will be displaying their works of art at the Gentry Public Library, on Main Street at Collins in Gentry, beginning today and continuing through Dec. 16. An open house, part of the Second Annual Christmas Art Festival there, is scheduled for 3 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 10. Area residents are encouraged to stop by the library to view the artwork on display there, as well as to make use of the library offerings. Hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays and 9 a.m. until 12 noon on Saturdays.

Falling Springs Christmas Program

Falling Springs Church will hold its Christmas program at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3. The church is located 4 1/2 miles west of Decatur on Falling Springs Road. The public is invited to come and join the fellowship and see a special guest.

Decatur United Methodist to hold annual Christmas Bazaar

The Decatur United Methodist Church will hold its annual Christmas Bazaar, Friday, Dec. 2, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. All are invited to come and enjoy a lunch of homemade soups and sandwiches, dessert and beverage for only $5. There will be crafts and vendor tables, gently-used Christmas items and a bake sale. All proceeds will go to local charities.

Gravette High School's Project Prom Bake Sale set Friday

Gravette High School's Project Prom Bake Sale is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 2, in the Bank of Gravett lobby. There will be cakes, pies, candy, cookies, brownies, fudge and more. All proceeds go to benefit GHS Project Prom -- a free, fun, safe, chaperoned, after-prom event for GHS juniors, seniors and their dates. For more information, call 479-787-5628.

Gravette plans Christmas parade, open house at museum

The annual Christmas parade in Gravette is planned for Saturday, Dec. 3, at 4 p.m. Parade participants will travel down Main Street and make their way southward to the Gravette Historical Museum. The museum is hosting a "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" open house immediately after the parade. The Kindley house will feature a beautiful display of Santas, a collection furnished by museum commission member Lavon Stark. The Kindleys are expected to greet guests on the front porch. Miss Lauren Leonard will be helping everyone get in the holiday spirit by playing seasonal tunes in the music room. Hot cocoa will be served by representatives from the Billy V. Hall Senior Activity Center, and area churches have furnished Christmas cookies. Mike von Ree will be making a big batch of his famous chili. Those who need further warmth can plan on gathering around the fire pit in the back yard. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be in the annex building next door listening to children's wish lists. His Town and Country elves will be present to help everyone make holiday crafts. Steve Huckriede will be the photographer for this special evening.

Gentry to hold Christmas parade, visit with Santa

"Christmas on Main Street" is the theme of this year's Christmas parade in Gentry. The parade is set for 6 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 10, with lineup at 5:30 p.m. at Nelson's Feed Store (at Railway Ave. and Main Street). The parade will travel west down Gentry's Main Street. Preregistration will not be necessary, but all parade entries should be at the lineup location at 5:30 for judging and placement in the parade. Santa Claus is expected to again make an appearance in the Gentry parade. Santa will also be on hand in the Chamber of Commerce building, located at 212 East Main Street, from 3 to 5:30 p.m., to hear wish lists from children and for photos with children. Santa has been preparing and looking forward to his Gentry visit all year, and he is hoping plenty of area youth will come to the Chamber office for a visit.

Couponing and Holiday Savings Class offered at Gentry Library

Rebekah Wheeler, a local couponing enthusiast, will conduct a Couponing and Holiday Savings Class at the Gentry Public Library from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3. She will discuss where to find coupons, how to maximize savings at grocery and big-box stores, how to use phone apps and online sites for extra savings and rebates, and how to organize paper and online coupons. Holiday Express Visit

Family fun for all is planned during the visit of the KCS Holiday Express Train in Gravette. The train will stop in Centennial Park, at the intersection of Highways 59 and 72, at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 13. Children will be able to board the train, tour several cars and get a picture with Santa. Refreshments will be served and food trucks will be on site. Christmas carolers will entertain the crowd and visitors may enjoy after-hours shopping on Main Street. Main Street festivities will begin at 6 p.m.

Lions Club meetings held in Gravette and Gentry

Gravette Lions Club meets at noon on the first Tuesday and the third Tuesday of every month at the In-Zone Restaurant on Arkansas 59 North in Gravette. The Gentry Lions Club meets at 6:30 p.m. on the fourth Monday of the month at the McKee Community Room in Gentry Public Library. New members are welcome and invited.

Tired Iron Club meets third Tuesday of month

Tired Iron of the Ozarks antique engine and tractor club meets at 7 p.m. the third Tuesday of each month at the club's showgrounds, located at 13344 Taylor Orchard Road in Gentry. For more information, visit the club's website at www.tiredironoftheozarks.org.

Gravette Kiwanis Club plans breakfast meetings

The Gravette Kiwanis Club holds breakfast meetings at 7 a.m. each Friday at the cafeteria in Ozarks Community Hospital. Guests are welcome.

Gravette Legion meets third Tuesday of month

Gravette American Legion Post 25 meets at 7 p.m. the third Tuesday of the month at the Civic Center. All veterans are encouraged to attend.

Singing services planned

Monthly singing services at Falling Springs Church are held at 7 p.m. the first Friday of each month. The church is located northwest of Gentry and west of Decatur on Falling Springs Road.

Decatur VFW meetings first Tuesday of month

VFW Post 9834 meets at 7:30 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month. New members and guests are welcome.
