— Roberto Barrios coaxed Gravette's point-after attempt through the goalposts in overtime Friday, giving the Lions a victory against Ozark in the season opener for both 4A schools.

The two teams tied at seven apiece at the half after a late fourth-down Ozark touchdown put the Hillbillies on the board.

The two teams were tied again, at 14, when the horn announced the end of regulation play.

Ozark got the ball first from the 10-yard line in overtime. Hayden Atkinson ran it in untouched on the first play, but the extra-point attempt failed, leaving the door open for Gravette.

The Lions answered on the third play of their possession when Kilby Roberts connected with Brady Moorman in tight coverage.

Barrios' kick sealed the win, 21-20, for Gravette.

Lavaca 20, Gentry 16

The Gentry Pioneers fell to their host team, Lavaca, in Friday night's non-conference season opener for the Pioneers, 20-16.

Lavaca Struck in the first quarter, with two touchdowns and points after, but Gentry got going in the second quarter, picking up all 16 of its points on TDs by Jon Faulkenberry and Hunter Butler, with Faulkenberry and Devin Ellis also crossing the goal for 2-point conversions.

But that wasn't enough. Lavaca put another TD on the board before the half and neither team scored in the final two quarters of the game.
