GRAVETTE --The Gravette senior girls' volleyball team posted another conference victory as they played host to the Elkins Elks in the old gym at Gravette High School Sept. 13.

From the opening serve, it became apparent that the Lions would have to work for every point as the Elks built a quick lead. But an early timeout by Gravette head coach Katie Collins turned the momentum in the Lions' favor and they gained control of the set. The Elks came within two points halfway through the set but were unable to regain the lead. The Lions took the set, 25 to 15.

Once again Elkins took the first two points in the second set but were unable to hold it as Gravette overtook the Elks to take the lead. The second set saw some of the most aggressive plays by both teams. Several rallies between the Lions and the Elks kept the scores close until the end, when Gravette moved ahead and took the set, 25 to 19.

The aggressive plays in the second set wore down Elkins as Gravette made quick work in the third and final set to take a 25 to 12 victory and its fourth 4A conference victory of the season.

The Lions traveled to Springdale Sept. 15 where they faced a tough Shiloh Christian Saints team. The Lions fought hard in the match but came up short, losing in three straight sets to the Saints, 25 to 19, 25 to 17 and 25 to 18.

Gravette is now 4 and 2 in conference and 4 and 4 overall going into a three match series against the Huntsville Eagles Sept. 19, the Gentry Pioneers at home Sept. 20 and the Lincoln Wolves on the road Sept. 22. All games begin at 6:30 p.m.
