DECATUR — DECATUR -- A search for a possible victim of a collision between a train and a person on the tracks turned up nothing but a cowboy hat on Saturday night though multiple agencies joined in the search for a possible victim.
Local police and sheriff's deputies and fire department personnel searched an area of the Kansas City Southern tracks near the Y-City intersection and north shortly after 9 p.m. on Saturday when a report was received that a train had possibly hit a pedestrian on the tracks.
The extensive search included a helicopter and a K-9, but the only thing found was a cowboy hat, according to information received from a sheriff's office spokesman on Monday.
According to Federal Railroad Administration statistics, 909 pedestrian rail trespass casualties (fatalities and injuries) occurred in the U.S. during 2015.
