Lady Pioneers shut out Lady Pirates in doubleheader

Come up short in game at Prairie Grove

GENTRY -- The Lady Pioneers hosted the Lady Pirates of Greenland for a doubleheader on April 4 and shut out and mercy-ruled Greenland in both games, winning each game, 15-0.

Alyssa Kelton pitched both three-inning games for the Lady Pioneers. She struck out four batters in the first and four in the second and allowed one hit in each game.

The Gentry girls had 10 hits and 15 runs in the opening game, five runs each inning, to finish the Lady Pirates in three innings. Then, in game two, Gentry scored five in the first, two in the second and eight in the third, to seal the 15-0 conference win.

Kelton was three for three in game one and had two RBIs. Harley Stanfield also batted in two. In game two, Brooke Boston, Kelton and Taylor Hull each had two hits, with Kelton driving in four of Gentry's runs. Hull and Stanfied each had two RBIs. Stanfield hit a double in the game, and Hull hit a home run. Alexis Droddy, Boston and Meledy Owens all had triples in the final game.

The Lady Pioneers came up short against the Lady Tigers on Thursday, losing the travel game, 4-3, in the final inning.

Gentry started slow but picked up solo runs in the third, fourth and seventh innings. Prairie Grove tied up the game at two each in the bottom of the fourth by scoring two runs. Then, when the Lady Pioneers took back the lead in the top of the seventh on a Xitlali Estrada single and Brooke Boston fly-ball single to center, the Lady Tigers responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning to take the win with a two RBI double with one out on the board.

Brooke Boston led the Lady Pioneers with three hits and an RBI in the game. April Harris and Alyssa Kelton each had a hit and RBI in the game.

Kelton was on the mound for Gentry and struck out four and walked three.
