PRAIRIE GROVE -- Gentry's Haley Hays drove the lane and banked in a shot with two seconds to go to lift Gentry to a 25-23 win over Prairie Grove in girls' basketball action Friday.
The low-scoring affair was tied four times in the fourth quarter. Gentry led 18-15 after three periods of play before Jasmine Wynos passed out of the post to set up Lexie Madewell's trifecta that evened the score at 18-18. Hannah Boss and Jordan Sugg traded free throws. Boss' old-fashioned 3-point play put Gentry up 23-20 at the 4:35 mark. The score stayed that way until Prairie Grove's Larisha Crawford nailed a 3-pointer with 41 seconds left to tie the game.
"We played good on defense, we just couldn't get the ball to go into the basket," said Prairie Grove coach Kevin Froud, who saw two players return from injuries in spot duty.
Senior Madi Vinson and junior Emily Grant each made 3-pointers but were used sparingly.
"I didn't want to rush them back in," Froud said. "When they come back and get in shape, it will be an added bonus to the team."
Kya Dezurik scored 11, Hannah Boss had 9 and Chastery Fuamatu had 8 for Gentry. Madewell led the Lady Tigers with 5.
