Pioneers stop visiting Tigers on Friday

GENTRY -- The Pioneers hosted the Tigers from West Fork on Friday and picked up a narrow victory, 79-76.

Though down a point after the first quarter, 21-20, The Pioneers moved ahead on the shooting of Ethan Hammond in the second quarter. Hammond put in four treys and a deuce in the quarter to help Gentry take its halftime break up by five, 43-38.

Hammond hit two more three pointers in the third quarter. Austin Morris added two more treys and a deuce to build Gentry's lead to seven before the final quarter. And though West Fork picked up another 17 points in the final quarter, it wasn't enough and Gentry held on to its edge for the 79-76 win.

Hammond led the Pioneers with 27 points in the game. Cole Cripps had 17. Morris had 12 and Evan Folker 11.

GIRLS

Gentry 36, West Fork 27

On the girls' side, Gentry grabbed an early lead with Hannah Boss, a Gentry junior, picking up seven of Gentry's 10 points in the quarter. Boss added three more in the third quarter and one in the fourth to help her teammates in the 36-27 victory.

The Lady Pioneers held the lead down to the final buzzer, outscoring the Lady Tigers in all but the final quarter when West Fork picked up nine points in its best quarter of the game.

Boss led the Gentry girls with 11 points. Madison Ward had eight and Haley Hays had seven.
