New 4-H club in the works for Highfill

— A new 4-H club is in the works for Highfill, according to information Marisha Gardisser shared with the Highfill City Council on Feb. 14. An informational/interest meeting is planned for 6 p.m., March 13, at Highfill's city hall.

Gardisser said she grew up in 4-H, beginning as a Cloverbud in the Highfill 4-H club. Due to low member numbers, the previous Highfill club was discontinued in the late 90s. Now, with two young sons involved in 4-H, Gardisser said she would like to see a club started back up in Highfill, a club which would focus on serving the Highfill and Gentry communities.

Logan 4-H, led by longtime 4-H volunteer, Jackie Griffin, will continue to meet at the Logan Community Building and serve the Siloam Springs community.

Children, ages 5-19, can join 4-H. Gardisser said at least eight junior members, ages 9 and older, would be needed for the new Highfill club to be approved.

"4-H is a free, fun, educational program where children learn by doing," Gardisser explained. "4-H is much more than showing animals at the fair," she said. "It provides kids many community service and leadership opportunities to gain knowledge they can use the rest of their lives."

Stacy Digby, Highfill's mayor, said the new club could use the city hall or the community building without charge. He said it would be good if the new club could eventually use the community building because the state organization helping with restoring the old school building would like to see it used by the community.
