Maysville EH Club News

MAYSVILLE -- Twelve members and guest Nicole Hughes were present for the June 22 meeting of the Maysville EH Club. Lunch hostess was BJ Ray. President Wardlaw called the meeting to order. Jane welcomed everyone.

The group sang "Climb Every Mountain" and then recited the Pledge of Allegiance. Gwen Singleton read a poem, "Who Will Take Grandma?" Orpha Wardlaw read Psalm 1. Several eye openers were presented, including a single serving of microwavable cake by Jane Wilber and a wheelchair carryall by Laura Kinney. Bert Ballman mentioned vinegar and soda were good cleansers to remove the smell of soured milk.

Dianna Afuvai gave the lesson on children's education choices. Although the majority choose public schools, there are numerous educational choices for young people and their parents to choose from today, including home schools, charter schools, technical schools and even virtual schools.

Roll call was called and answered by giving the name of a favorite teacher.

Volunteer hours and activity attendance were turned in.

Bert Ballman gave a report on the chuck wagon dinner. We served around 60 people. We are considering having the fundraisers on Friday nights instead of Saturday.

Wardlaw reminded us of County Fun Day on June 29. This is a county event in which all the Benton County EH clubs come to Maysville for a day of fun, food and learning. Visitors are welcome and encouraged to attend.

The Benton County Fair is fast approaching. There are many categories, from photography and baked goods to garden produce, which anyone can enter. Members were encouraged to enter something this year and to support the fair by attending.

The meeting was adjourned with a benediction.
